Derms of the Family Tree

Derms of the family tree are some of the most common when it comes to demon influence and possession. They tend to cling from generation to generation in a family line, perpetuating mental torture or abuse or corrupt quests towards wealth and power. They’re also often behind addictions that occur across generations, or behind greed, even if a generation is skipped.

Having demons in the family tree—such as derms of legacy or derms of mental torture, which are two varieties of this type of derm—doesn't mean they get passed on to every family member, although it's possible. These derms look for the most susceptible family members.

Derms of the family tree usually stem from souls that were from very early on in a family line in history who did not want to leave before what they believed was their time. In human form, they often lived to be the oldest in the family line and were soured by what they thought was leaving the earthly realm early, choosing to stay on and taunt the family line. Or a derm of the family tree can be a demon from an outside source that was attracted to an individual in the family line.

People who are influenced by derms of the family tree of different varieties could be oblivious to family history that goes back centuries. There could have been a family member driven by greed and completely disconnected from family responsibilities, or by addiction because they had demon influences. This could have broken down the fabric of the family line, weakening certain individuals and raising calamity as family members were affected by an older family member's demon. When that elder passes on, the derm looks for another family member with similar desires, injuries, and exposures to successfully influence into something like gambling or alcohol or sex or greed addiction.
